Guide

This is my preferred build when playing Azumarill.

I take tackle first as it's a great last hit move on wild mons.

Whirlpool: After the recent buff to Azu's hp and now built in 5% lifesteal at level 5, upraded to 10% at level 9 provides more sustain to the move as it already healed on hit making azu deceptively more tanky than it appears making it slighly better in 2vs1 situations.

Water pulse: This move is up to preference really as it is my favorite move in Azu's kit. I prefer the poke damage it does to setup kills for my carries. Play rough can be used here instead to stick onto targets better or for the stun.

Items:
Focus band: This is fantastic early game as it allows for more favorable early game engages and increases azu's defenses by a flat 30 across all levels if fully upgraded.

Aeos cookie: If fully stacked for example say level 9 you normally will have 5,072 hp instead you'll have 6,272 plus hp depending on item level, if level 20 this will give you an additional 160 hp across all levels. I Also use this because of the battle item.

Attack weight: Fully stacked will provide you with 72 extra attack plus item level. 12 at level 20. This helps with Azu's built in lifesteal, allowing for more sustain in fights.

Potion: The reason I use the aeos cookie in the first place as this is a percentage based hp heal. The higher your base hp, the more potent the heal. At level 9 you'd heal for 1,014 hp, but fully stacked at item level 20 gives you 1,286 hp.

Early game try to get some early game stacks. Be wary of the opposing laners that make things harder for this build. Pikachu and Ninetales are examples of mons tough to stack against. Try and steal their aipoms if possible for additional stacks.

Late game is where you shine with the added damage and bulk you can aggro enemies in team fights for your carries with water pulse or play rough and sustain longer with whirlpool's heal on hit and your lifesteal. Potion keeps you in the fight longer. Don't forget about your unite move, you can straight up delete opposing carries with it setting up your team for a more favorable team fight. It also has a very fast charge rate, it can turn around a fight when needed.

Conclusion: This is my approach on playing Azumarill to show there is more to it than pure damage. Thanks for listening.

Works Well With

Blissey

Blissey safegurad or softboiled keeps you alive longer early game and late game and will make it easier defending your goal zones.

Decidueye

Drawing in aggro for it will allow decidueye to do the damage it needs and snipe the opposing team.

Greninja

With water pulse chip and whirlpool this allows greninja to combo surf to start a ko chain.
