Guide
Defenders and Supporters can be fairly interchangeable depending on the circumstances. They both have the goal of supporting your team’s damage dealers while providing utility for the team as a whole.
This build is made for if you need a Supporter but aren’t comfortable on any of the Supporters currently in the game.
Early-game, Slowpoke’s Water Gun doesn’t provide too much in terms of utility. It has a brief slow, and actually does a surprising amount of damage to squishy targets. So, at the beginning of the game, you’ll auto-attack the Aipoms as you’re walking to lane WITHOUT getting the last hit. This will allow your laner to get the maximum XP from taking them down, allowing them to level faster. Once you’ve gotten to lane, auto the Audino once or twice, max, then move into position to steal the enemy’s Audino. A well-timed Water Gun once the Audino has about 1/3-1/4 of its health left will normally steal it, giving you some much-needed XP while depriving your enemies of it.
Then, once lane phase starts you should be just about Level 4, so when you take Surf your goal then becomes to be a CC bot. Surf and Telekinesis provides you with essentially a single-target CC chain that makes it so you can hold the damage dealer still for 2-3 full seconds, which is a lifetime in MOBA time. Not to mention once you reach Level 9 and unlock your Unite Move, the CC chain reaches almost 5 seconds, while also shielding both yourself AND your closest low-health ally.
Focus Band synergizes with Slowbro’s passive beautifully, making you SHOCKINGLY tanky once you reach low health, plus it provides you with Defense and Sp. Defense, while your other two items grant you HP. This build grants you the survivability that you’ll need to feel like a presence in teamfights (a squishy Slowbro is a pointless Slowbro) while also giving you the utility that you need to be a proper Supporter in the bot lane.
This build works best with All-Rounders that tend to lack sticking power such as Lucario, Garchomp, and Machamp because you can hold the enemy still for long enough that they’ll have the chance to really show what they can do.
